What Books Do Gitmo Detainees Read?


What do a suspected terrorist and a 10-year-old child have in common? They might be reading the Harry Potter books.

New York Times reporter Charlie Savage took some photos of the books that are available to detainees at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. And some of the selected reading materials might be surprising.


Everything from the Chronicles of Narnia to a Pashto-to-English dictionary are available in the Gitmo prison library. Here are some of the selected books that Savage highlights in his new Tumblr account:
