Syria Expels U.S., Western Diplomats

Syria has expelled several Western diplomats, including the envoys from the United States, Great Britain, France and Turkey, the Associated Press reports.

In a speech on Sunday, President Bashar al-Assad cited “foreign meddling” in his country’s conflict, which has lasted 15 months.

Last week, the U.S. was joined by more than a dozen other countries in expelling Syrian diplomats from their countries, reacting to reports of a massacre that left more than 100 people dead, many of whom were women and children. Assad denied that Syrian forces carried out the massacre.

In total, 17 diplomats were declared “personae non gratae" by Syria, the BBC reports.
