The U.S. ambassador to India, former Rep. Tim Roemer, has submitted his resignation, White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said Thursday.
A statement released by the embassy in New Delhi said Roemer was leaving for "personal, professional, and family reasons." The embassy said he would step down in June, according to numerous reports.
Roemer has two children who will soon attend college, and has said he intended to serve for no longer than two years.
A six-term member of Congress from Indiana, Roemer served on the 9/11 Commission and then as a campaign adviser to President Obama.
