Libyan rebels entered Muammar el-Qaddafi's Bab al-Aziziya compound on Tuesday, according to Reuters reporters. The rebels were seen firing into the air in celebration.
Amid loud blasts, CNN's Sara Sidner described the scene on the ground in Tripoli: "We do see a lot of fighters sort of coming and roaming around these streets.... You really feel like you're in a situation where you can't tell exactly what you're dealing with until you turn the corner."

The Agence France Press reports that the residents in the Gourji neighborhood of Tripoli are too afraid to leave their homes and that young men are patrolling the streets, claiming that it is their "duty" to protect the area. Watch the raw footage:
And from the Associated Press on Tuesday: "Intense gunfire and loud explosions rocked Tripoli neighborhoods as rebels and Gadhafi forces battled for control."
