Reports: Bin Laden Buried at Sea

May 2, 2011 | 3:46 a.m.

Osama bin Laden has been buried at sea, according to various news reports. The burial comes just hours after President Obama announced that the terrorist leader was killed in an operation this weekend.

The decision to bury Bin Laden at sea was made in order to prevent his place of death from becoming a terrorist shrine, ABC News reported, citing “an informed source.” The burial was conducted in accordance with Islamic tradition, according to news reports.

That tradition requires that the body be washed by Muslim men and buried soon thereafter, ABC News reported.
