Report: U.S. Paid Families of Afghan Victims

March 25, 2012

The United States paid roughly $50,000 is restitution for each person killed in the shooting spree in Afghanistan, in which a U.S. soldier is accused of killing 17 Afghan civilians, NBC News reported on Sunday.

NBC quoted an unnamed U.S. official, who declined to give the total amount paid to families but said that it was “significant” and “substantial.”

“The amount reflects the extraordinarily devastating nature of the incident,” the official told NBC.
