QUICK TAKE: Iraqi Prime Minister Scheduled to Visit White House

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki will visit the White House on Dec. 12 to discuss the ongoing partnership between the U.S. and Iraq as American troops withdraw from the region. The White House said al-Maliki would be visiting at some point in December when President Obama announced the withdrawal last month.

The strategy going forward, according to the president’s national security advisers, is to keep only private contractors and Marines guarding embassies, working with the Iraqi forces in Iraq after the New Year.
