International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors said Tuesday evening that their mission to Iran has failed, the New York Times reports. The inspectors said Iranian officials blocked the inspectors’ access to a site that the inspectors believe can be used for tests on nuclear-weapons production and refused to agree to a process on resolving questions about other “possible military dimensions” to its nuclear program.
The mission’s failure is likely to heighten international tensions, the Times reports. But the newspaper also notes that Iran has indicated in recent days its willingness to resume negotiations over its nuclear program, though it’s unclear under what terms.
