A new book penned by a Navy SEAL will offer a first-person account of the raid that took down Osama bin Laden, The New York Times reports.
Penguin, the publisher of the book, would not say whether it sought approval, according to The Times. Spokespeople for both the Navy and National Security Council say that the author did not seek approval and they were unaware of the book until questioned by reporters.
The book, “No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama bin Laden,” set for release on Sept. 11, will be penned under the pseudonym “Mark Owen.” Names of other members of the SEAL team will be changed for security reasons, according to Penguin.
The author, who grew up in Alaska, was a former member of SEAL Team 6, the unit that killed bin Laden on May 2, 2011. He retired within the past year.
