President Francois Hollande of France on Friday reaffirmed his campaign commitment to withdrawing French troops from Afghanistan, according to pool reports. Hollande, speaking after meeting with President Obama at the White House, said that he’s committed to assisting Afghan security in other ways.

The two leaders will participate in the G-8 and NATO summits this weekend. Hollande’s campaign commitment is expected to complicate the NATO plan to withdraw combat troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2014.

During their joint appearance on Friday, Obama joked with Hollande about American fast food. Hollande promised to “say nothing against cheeseburgers,” and Obama responded by quipping that cheeseburgers and french fries go well together, according to pool reports.
