The Associated Press has identified Nakoula Basseley Nakoula as the manager of the company that produced the anti-Islam film Innocence of Muslims, which has been blamed for inciting riots in Libya and Egypt. In an interview outside Los Angeles, Nakoula, a Coptic Christian who was convicted of bank fraud in 2010, “acknowledged his role in managing and providing logistics for the production,” according to AP.

Nakoula denied to AP that he was the director of the film, but said he knew the self-described filmmaker, Sam Bacile. Although he denied being Bacile, AP reports that there are indications connecting him to the “Bacile persona.”
