ETHICS

Mo. Money, Mo. Problems

Missouri Republicans filed a complaint Tuesday with the Senate Ethics Committee over Sen. Claire McCaskill's use of taxpayer money to pay for political trips.

McCaskill last week paid back the $1,220 cost of a 2007 flight she took to Hannibal, Mo., to take part in the Missouri Democratic Party’s annual “Hannibal Days” event and her office said that the Senator made a mistake and is “beyond embarrassed.”

In total, McCaskill has repaid the government more than $88,000 to cover the costs of about 90 flights since 2007. This is not an admittance that she violated ethics law, aides told The Kansas City Star, but rather an effort to dismiss the notion that she benefitted financially from use of the plane.
