Rod Blagojevich (D) "defeated Republican challenger Judy Baar Topinka to win a second four-year term as governor" Nov. 7, "leading an Election Day sweep that gave Democrats complete control of state government" (Chicago Tribune, 11/7/08). ..... Topinka's campaign announced upcoming events with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (R) (AP, 7/10/06). ..... President Bush raised $1.2 million for Topinka at a Chicago fundraiser July 7 (AP, 7/7/06). ..... Blagojevich challenged Topinka to 10 debates during the general campaign (Chicago Tribune, 3/24/06). .....
