Chuck Todd's Race Ranking: 10
“I can't believe I have this race above Iowa. But that's how this cycle has gone for the GOP. Otter always had scars that could become problems under some circumstances. Word is he's finally starting to show positive movement over Brady, but it's still tight.

Republican Rep. Butch Otter, "a millionaire rancher, was elected Idaho's 32nd governor, beating Democrat Jerry Brady, a former newspaper publisher" (AP, 11/8/06). ..... Otter, "who is vacating his congressional seat to run for governor, cruised past two challengers Tuesday in the gubernatorial Republican primary. On the Democratic ballot, Brady also easily beat his opponent" (AP, 5/24/06). ..... After officially announcing in March his candidacy for Idaho governor, Brady came to Ketchum last week to hold his campaign's first major fund-raiser and publicly speak out against Kempthorne (Idaho Mountain Express, 8/17/05). ..... Otter "launched his expected bid for governor" in December. "Otter's entry is expected to force an expensive primary contest with" Risch (Idaho Statesman, 12/16/04).
