"Iowans elected Democrat Chet Culver governor," marking "the first time in Iowa history" that "a Democrat will take over the governor's office from a member of his own party" (Des Moines Register, 11/7/06). ..... Bill Richardson said the Democratic Governors Association would give another $500,000 to Culver's (D) campaign (Des Moines Register, 8/18/06). ..... Mitt Romney announced the Republican Governors Association would donate $500,000 to Rep. Jim Nussle's (R) campaign to match a similar contribution the DGA made to Culver in June (Des Moines Register, 8/17/06).
