Mark Udall moved on to the general election campaign after winning a four-way primary for the Democratic nomination in Colorado's 2nd District. "Educator" is an ad from Udall's primary campaign, and uses a straight head shot of the candidate as its sole visual. Like another Udall ad, it is a simple approach.
Udall addresses voters on the topic of education, stressing that his personal experience as an educator makes him the most qualified candidate to handle these concerns. On-screen captions show Udall's strategy: "Lower Class Sizes, Get Parents More Involved, Make Our Schools Safe." Another caption notes that Colorado teachers have endorsed Udall.
Ad Spotlight also has recent ads from defeated Democrat Gene Nichol and GOP nominee Bob Greenlee. The Almanac of American Politics has a profile Rep. David Skaggs, who is retiring. And the official Mark Udall for Congress Web site can be found here.
Script Of "Educator"
UDALL: As an educator and father, I've seen the spark that can happen when you give a child your full attention. Overcrowded classrooms are wrong. If we can afford to hire 100,000 new cops, then we can afford to hire 100,000 new teachers. We need to lower class sizes, get parents more involved, and make our schools safe.I'm Mark Udall. As your congressman, I'll fight to put our children first because it's the right thing to do.
