Poll: Is SCOTUS's McCutcheon Ruling Good or Bad for Your Party?

April 10, 2014

Is the Supreme Court's ruling in McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission a positive or negative for your party?

DEMOCRATS (86 VOTES)

Positive: 17%
Negative: 83%

Positive

"Citizens [United] destroys parties; McCutcheon helps parties. As for whether or not it's good for the average citizen, that is a different question."

"Oddly, a positive one, in that national-party committees can now have a stronger hand in campaign operations again, as they were limited by the finance limits."

Negative

"Decision hurts democracy more than Democrats. McCutcheon decision wounds Democrats but is not fatal electorally. You can buy some politicians but not many elections."

"Roberts Court is working hard to make sure that the government of the rich, for the rich, and by the rich shall not perish."

"Anything that allows more big money into the process is bad for the system and certainly bad for the Party of the 99 percent."

"The Republicans/conservatives will dump money in the key races. We just have to be smarter to offset it, but we are at a disadvantage."

"Bad financially but great politically. Makes the narrative of the GOP as the party of big corporations against the middle class even stronger."

"They've got more rich old white guys than we do."

"Kochs 1, America 0."

Is the Supreme Court's ruling in McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission a positive or negative for your party?

REPUBLICANS (83 VOTES)

Positive: 92%
Negative: 8%

Positive

"This will help us close the gap with House Democrats."

"Biggest problem post-Citizens United has been not enough money going into the actual campaigns themselves. So this is a plus—why should the [independent expenditure] committees have all the funds?"

"Good constitutional law and a blow to misguided reforms like McCain-Feingold. Politically, it favors Democrats every bit as much as Republicans. Trial lawyers and West Coast liberals will now be able to flood the political system with cash."

"Anything that relinquishes McCain-Feingold's stranglehold on free speech is good for Republicans and Democrats alike."

"Doesn't make much difference, as not that many individuals max out to the former limit, but will get a few more bucks to long-shot candidates."

"The Democrats hate it, so it must be good."

Negative

"More rope with which to hang ourselves."

"The superrich are very liberal."
