Senate Banking Committee unanimously approves the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act reauthorization [blog]

Issued By
June 6, 2014

Full Congress passage should come swiftly

Today the Senate Banking Committee unanimously passed the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) reauthorization legislation, of which I am the lead Republican sponsor. The broad bipartisan support for TRIA is indicative of how critical it is to be adequately prepared for a terrorism event, during our nation's most vulnerable moments.

To protect Illinois' nearly 6 million workers, high value commercial properties, and the U.S. economy from the fallout of a terrorist event, the reauthorization of TRIA by Congress should come swiftly. With no cost to the taxpayer, TRIA is a positive example of a successful public-private partnership between the private sector and the federal government. This legislation represents a solid bipartisan effort to enhance protections and further shield the taxpayer from incurring significant losses during a terrorism event.

I commend my colleagues from both sides of the aisle for their work on this legislation.
