Cybele Bjorklund, Minority Staff Director, Health Subcommittee

+

(Richard A. Bloom)

Bjorklund came to Washington in the early '90s straight out of grad school during the tail end of Hillary Rodham Clinton's failed health care reform effort, desperate to make a difference and afraid they would finish the work without her.

Needless to say that didn't happen, but it was intense and satisfying years later when Bjorklund was able to play a role in bringing the Affordable Care Act to fruition.

She has served on the Ways and Means Committee since 2001. Bjorklund, 46, came over from the office of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., where she handled health care, Medicare, and the Children's Health Insurance Program. Before then, she worked for then-Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D.

At Ways and Means, she has a lead role monitoring the health care law and explaining how it works while trying to ensure its successful implementation at a time when the Republican House majority is focused on tearing the law apart.

This article appears in the October 24, 2013 edition of NJ Daily as Cybele Bjorklund, Minority Staff Director, Health Subcommittee.
