MINNESOTA 01 (D/ROCHESTER -- WALZ)

Walzing Nancy

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA-08) attended a 250-person fundraiser 4/21 for Rep. Tim Walz (D). And at a veterans forum, Pelosi repeatedly praised Walz for his work on a House veterans cmte. She "thanked Walz for his 'great leadership in the Congress on issues about America keeping our promises to our veterans.'" MN GOP Chair Ron Carey said that since Walz "voted to 'rubber stamp Nancy Pelosi's liberal agenda,'" her presence at a Walz fund-raiser was not a surprise. Carey: "All the big money in the world can't obscure the fact that Walz is promoting San Franciso values, not southern Minnesota values" (Wente, Duluth News Tribune, 4/22).

Coming Together

On 4/21, '08 candidate/Lake Crystal School Bd Chair Mark Meyer (R) endorsed Mayo Clinic Physician Brian Davis (R). Meyer: "Brian has proven himself as the strongest candidate to win the election this fall against incumbent Congressman Walz and represent the First District in Washington" (release, 4/22).

Election 2012 – Managing Alternatives

5:06 p.m.

In politics, the language of choice often comes loaded. School choice. Abortion rights. Public option. Proponents embrace these descriptions to put the best possible face on otherwise contentious issues. This was one of the weeks when the politics of alternatives defined the debate.
