COLORADO 02 (D/BOULDER -- UDALL)

What's Another $500K Among Friends?

Tue. May 20, 2008

Ex-state Board of Ed. Chair Jared Polis (D) "once again has dipped into his fortune," putting more than $500K into the race. So far, he's put "more than" $1.5M into the campaign, "prompting rivals to say he is trying to buy the election." Ex-state Sen. Pres. Joan Fitz-Gerald (D) mgr Mary Alice Mandarich: "I find it terribly ironic that Jared is putting all this money into the campaign, but he hasn't paid taxes for the last four years."

Polis' camp "fired back" at Fitz-Gerald. Polis mgr Dayna Hanson: "The difference between Jared Polis and career politicians like Sen. Fitz-Gerald is that she funds her campaigns with thousands of dollars from powerful special interests, like the oil and gas lobby" (Bartels, Rocky Mountain News, 5/20).
