A Shallow Graves For Alternative Energy
Ex-Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes (D) said on 5/5 that Rep. Sam Graves (R) "was 'very obviously' in 'the pocket of big oil.'" Barnes "pointed to a slew" of votes and campaign donations to back her statement, including what she said was Graves' "lack of support for wind and other forms of alternative energy." Graves "shot back," saying through a spokesperson that Barnes was "cherry-picking votes" that misrepresent his backing for alternative energy. Barnes said energy policy under Pres. Bush and VP Cheney and Graves is in shambles. Barnes: "It's clear that most of that money will go to pay for the sharp rise in gas prices."Graves spokesman Jason Klindt said Graves has voted to support the wind industry. He "opposed some bills" that include support for wind because the bills contained other provisions that Graves "deemed harmful" (Kraske, Kansas City Star, 5/5).
