Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow

Thursday, March 26, 2009

It's been awhile since we've looked at Hillary Clinton through the prism of campaign/party politics. OK, maybe just a few weeks. Still, the past 24 hours have given us new reason to remember you can never count out a Clinton.

-- First, there was a CNN/Opinion Research poll that shows the Sec/State's job-approval stands at 71 percent. Not bad for someone who one year ago this week admitted she "misspoke" about sniper fire during a '96 trip to Bosnia. Also not bad, considering her numbers are 7 points higher than those for the man who defeated her in '08.

-- Next up, Planned Parenthood announced Clinton will headline a 3/27 awards ceremony in Houston. HRC accepted the invite well before she became Sec/State, but her appearance is a stark reminder of the big role HRC has played in abortion-rights politics ... and the bigger role women played in her '08 campaign.

-- Finally, speaking to NBC's Mitchell in Mexico, Clinton dabbled in domestic politics, voicing support for an assault-weapons ban but acknowledging the NRA is too strong, and the admin's plate too full, to make it a priority this year.

-- All of which raises the question, if Obama doesn't run in '12 (a possibility, he says), Clinton will, right? (Then again, maybe we should take a lesson from '08 and stop making bold predictions, at least where HRC is concerned).
