Make Yourself At Home
After filing for divorce last week, NV Gov. Jim Gibbons (R) has gone to court to "get back into his own mansion," in which wife Dawn Gibbons is currently "ensconced." J. Gibbons is now aiming to have her evicted. Gibbons "moved out of the mansion sometime earlier this year and returned to the couple's modest, four-bedroom house about 25 miles away in Reno" (Riley, AP, 5/6).
Meanwhile, D. Gibbons "is trying to move the couple's divorce proceedings from Carson City to Reno," arguing that's where they reside. Her atty, Cal Dunlap, "said he filed a demand for change of venue" 5/6. Dunlap "would not comment" on whether D. Gibbons "would have a better chance for a fair hearing in Reno as opposed to Carson City, where the judge has ordered most proceedings be private." Dunlap, on J. Gibbons: "He doesn't own the mansion. He doesn't pay taxes on it. He doesn't do any of the things indicative of residence, although occasionally he spends a night there" (Damon, Reno Gazette-Journal, 5/7).
