"Five days after being charged with drunken driving," Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY) "returned to work" 5/6, "attending a Capitol Hill hearing on net neutrality." Despite the "display of normalcy," leaders on both sides of the aisle were beginning to privately "express doubt that Fossella can serve out the remainder of his term -- let alone remain politically viable" in Nov. "The actual DWI arrest, while serious, seems like a mere pittance compared to the revelations that followed" in the NY tabloids, which "winkingly implied" he could have fathered the child of the "mystery woman" who picked him up from jail (Kurtz, Roll Call, 5/7).
The New York Daily News reported today that when he was pulled over last week, Fossella "implied" to cops that the 3-year-old daughter of Air Force Col. Laura Fay -- the woman who later "plucked him from jail" -- "was his." The "married" Fossella, pulled over en route to Fay's home, told officers "he was rushing to see his sick daughter" (Schapiro/Meek/Moore, New York Daily News, 5/7).
