Fighting Too Much Will Get You Black And Bruce-d

Tue. May 6, 2008

'03/'07 GOV candidate/businessman Bruce Lunsford (D) "fired back" 5/5, saying businessman Greg Fischer (D) "has a stake in publicly traded funds that invested in corporate descendants of Vencor Inc., the troubled health care company founded by Lunsford." Fischer's personal financial disclosure report showed he "has investments in four mutual funds and one bond fund that invested in either Ventas or Kindred Healthcare, Lunsford's campaign said." Those two companies were formed from the problems of Vencor Inc. Lunsford spokesperson Allison Haley: "The fact that all the while, Fischer has investments in the very companies he claims Bruce ran into the ground makes Fischer's actions the ultimate hypocrisy."

Fischer pol. dir. Kim Geveden said 5/5 the counterattack linking Fischer to investments in Ventas and Kindred was irrelevant because Lunsford has no day-to-day management role in either company. Geveden: "Bruce Lunsford is not running those companies. Bruce Lunsford ran Vencor into the ground." Geveden said Lunsford's statement was a "desperate tactic" that shows Lunsford has been hurt by the attention on his business record.

Lunsford's camp also said 5/5 that Fischer missed the deadline for filing his personal financial disclosure report with the Senate Ethics Cmte by 11 days. Haley: "If I were Greg Fischer, I wouldn't want the public to know I had been investing in the same companies I was openly criticizing either. Maybe that's why he waited so long" to file the report (Schreiner, AP, 5/5).
