On 4/19, Dems gathered at CD convos across to choose 83 delegates and 15 alternatives to the convo.

Supporters of Barack Obama "appeared to fall short of capturing all the 36 uncommitted delegates" chosen at the 15 separate convos. In three Southeast MI districts, "activists supported by Michiganders for Obama" lost out to union-backed candidates. Elsewhere in the state, "the Obama group's appeared to fare well."

With 83 of the state's 156 delegates divided based on results from MI's CDs, 47 went to Hillary Clinton and 36 were uncommitted. (Trowbridge, Detroit News, 4/19).

A senior at Lawrence Univ. in Appleton, WI "could play a role in whether voters" in FL and MI "have a say over" the nod. Twenty-two-year-old Leila Sahar was one of 25 people appointed by DNC Chair Howard Dean "to be part of the so-called Credentials Committee, which could determine whether the two states have delegates" at the convo (Marrero, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 4/20).

Election 2012 – Managing Alternatives

5:06 p.m.

In politics, the language of choice often comes loaded. School choice. Abortion rights. Public option. Proponents embrace these descriptions to put the best possible face on otherwise contentious issues. This was one of the weeks when the politics of alternatives defined the debate.
