The IN sec/state's office reported that over 89K people "had voted early" with their county clerk's office or by mail-in ballots through 4/28. Fewer than 57K such votes were cast 4 years ago. Applications to county election offices for absentee ballots are running about 3-to-1 Dem. IN Dem Chair Dan Parker said both campaigns "had key demographic groups among their typical supporters" who were prime targets for early voting- older voters for Hillary Clinton and first-time younger voters for Barack Obama.
Numerous counties "have seen large early turnouts." In Monroe and Vanderbrugh counties, more than 3 times as many ballots have been cast over the total from '04. Other large counties, including St. Joseph and Vigo counties, have already doubled their totals from '04 (Davies, AP, 4/30).
