Paging Mary J. Blige

DENVER - There were no PUMA walk-outs, no teeth-gnashing or "woe is me" lines. The cameras didn't even catch an eye-roll. Like her concession speech on 6/7, HRC took one for the team when it needed her the most. This hasn't put the Clintons-Obama drama to rest. There's still that roll call vote this p.m. Oh, and then there's that B. Clinton speech. But just how significant is this "disunity" among Dems that needs to be "healed"?

-- Obama's actually doing just as well among the base than the party's last two noms. Just before their convos, according to NBC/WSJ polls, Gore and Kerry were pulling in 77% of the Dem vote. Obama's getting 79%. This is even more noteworthy given that more voters ID themselves as Dems, according to Pew, than in '00 or '04.

-- If last night was all about unity (and not just for ex-HRC supporters. Warner, Schweitzer and Casey were there as emissaries to conservs) will tonight be all about McCain? Much has been made of Biden's attack-dog creds. Will he bring them out like he did in Springfield? More important, will B. Clinton build a bridge to the future, or will his speech focus on these past 19 months?

Quote of the Day

"He's still mad at me. I haven't heard from him. But it takes him longer to come around."

— NM Gov. Bill Richardson, on Bill Clinton, FNC, 8/26.
