Someone's In The Kitchen

The HRC camp's attacks on slanted/sexist coverage may be getting more traction than you think. New Q polls in OH, FL and PA show HRC ahead of McCain in all three battleground states; Obama only leads in PA.

-- The reason? Women. HRC carries women by double digits in all three states, including a whopping 26 pts in PA. Obama, meanwhile, splits women w/ McCain in FL and OH and wins them by half as much as HRC in PA. Will they flock back to the Dem nominee once the primary fog has cleared? Or has McCain already laid a claim on female voters that'll be tough for Obama to usurp?

-- Married women and "security moms," were key to Bush in '04. This year, of course, those women are "economy moms." That's where any Dem should have an obvious advantage. But at this point, it's HRC who's been singing their tune.

-- If McCain is going to keep them from moving over to Obama, he's gonna need to talk less about Cuba/Iran/Hamas and more about kitchen-table issues like gas prices, job security and health care.

Quote of the Day

"People go through the motions of an election only to have it discarded and disregarded. We're seeing that right now in Zimbabwe."

— Hillary Clinton, on seating FL delegates , ABCNews.com, 5/22

Dallas Morning News' Leubsdorf points out Dems will formally nominate their candidate, "presumably Barack Obama," on 8/27, which is LBJ's 100th birthday. The nominee will give the acceptance speech 8/28, the 45th anniversary of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech. "No two people are more responsible for the fact that the nomination and election of an African-American has become possible."
