Casting Call

WaPo's Dionne writes that while HRC won't be the WH nom, or the VP, her future "depends on discovering a new role, even if it is not the one she had originally hoped to play."

-- How she ultimately loses, however, may not be as important as how she chooses to win. Does she use tonight's expected blow-out in WV as a chance to further expose the Dem divide or to try to bridge it?

-- In TV appearances today, Wolfson and McAuliffe showed no signs of downplaying WV. Or KY or, perhaps, MT. But will the margin of her victory this p.m. be as important as the way in which she characterizes it? Will she use her time on the podium, once again, to highlight Obama's weaknesses w/ "hard working" voters? Or does she let the pundits do that and focus instead on her priorities, perhaps dropping hints to Obama on ways to woo her supporters this fall?

-- Meanwhile, Obama has instructed surrogates to be "gracious" when talking about HRC's future plans. But doesn't he still need to give Dems (esp. those still undecided supers) assurances that he can keep battleground states in play? We'll see what he says from MO, MI and FL over the next few days.

Quote of the Day

"Obviously, I wasn't doing wholesome things like bowling."

— Barack Obama, playing pool at Schultzie's Billiards, Charleston Gazette, 5/13.
