Paging Dr. Gore
The Nobel prize winner has done a great job staying out of the fight about the rules superdels should use to pick a WH Dem winner and the Flor-igan situation. But is it time for the Gore-acle to speak - or will his voice simply get lost in the cacophony?
-- That this race will continue until 6/3 is now a foregone conclusion. Yet, the extended calendar doesn't seem to be affecting Dem voter enthusiasm. Turnout is still high and the money's still pouring in. HRC's $10M haul was more than twice what she raised post-OH and TX.
-- What will certainly drag down Dem morale, however, is a process that gets snagged on a technicality. As it stands, no candidate can lay claim to being the Dems consensus choice in June. But a protracted battle over which metric should determine the winner (popular vote/delegate count/both?), threatens to leave supporters of HRC and Obama frustrated. Perhaps permanently so.
--The likelihood of Flor-igan getting resolved anytime soon seems remote. And it's only with these states that HRC's popular vote argument works. This, of course, makes the inclusion of Gore into this debate tricky. But can anyone else keep an asterick from being attached to the nominee?
Quote of the Day
"The problem is, to the extent that there is a problem, that older voters are very loyal to Senator Clinton."
— Barack Obama, denying he has a problem attracting white, working-class voters, Chicago Tribune, 4/24
