The incoming chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee said Sunday that House Republicans will probably move to repeal President Obama's health care reform law in January.
Michigan Republican Fred Upton said on Fox News Sunday that he expects House Republicans to bring up a health care repeal measure before Obama delivers his State of the Union address at the end of the month.
The move underscores the battles the Obama administration is going to face with the the new Republican House.
Upton added that he thinks Republicans will gain Democratic support in the House. "I think there will be a significant number of Democrats who will join us," he said.
The Republican acknowledged that it is very unlikely that the Democratic-controlled Senate will follow the House's lead, but he also said he believes the House Republican efforts will put significant pressure on Senate Democrats. "We're going to go after this bill piece by piece," Upton said.
