Massachusetts, the first state to pass a comprehensive health reform law, is now trying to break new ground in controlling healthcare costs, the Washington Post reports.
In the next few months, the Massachusetts legislature is expected to take up a bill to reform how doctors, hospitals and other providers are paid, including a controversial flat-fee approach. Instead of a fee-per-service approach – the norm – providers would be encouraged to accept a flat payment for all the care a patient or group of patients receives.
