The chairman of the breast cancer charity Susan G. Komen For the Cure has stepped down, the latest of a series of senior staffers to leave after a controversy over funding Planned Parenthood, the Washington Post reported on Friday.
Komen said LaSalle Leffall Jr., 81, needed to focus more on his job as provost of Howard University, but the Post quoted "aperson familiar with the board’s deliberations" as saying Howard University wanted Leffall to distance himself from the Komen board because of the controversy in February when Komen first took funds away from Planned Parenthood, and then reversed the decision.
