Former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said out loud on Sunday what GOP leaders have been murmuring for weeks: Rick Santorum could win the nomination.
"I think because of the way delegates are apportioned, this is going to go on for weeks and weeks, and I think he's got a legitimate chance to be the Republican nominee," he said on CNN's State of the Union.
Gibbs, who once worked for the Obama administration, said Santorum's strength lies in his contrast to Romney.
"He's clearly somebody who has a very different economic background than Mitt Romney," he said. "He's not worth $250 million and I assume his wife doesn't have several Cadillacs."
