Fans Cheer On Colbert at the FEC

Stephen Colbert, host of The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, dropped by the Federal Election Commission on Friday to file paperwork to form a super PAC.(Chet Susslin)

May 13, 2011

Under normal circumstances, it would be difficult for anyone to rally a handful of supporters--much less hundreds--at the Federal Election Commission's offices to seek clarification of federal campaign finance laws.

Normal circumstances didn't prevail for this rally on Friday afternoon.

Fans and supporters of Stephen Colbert, host of Comedy Central's satirical Colbert Report, spent part of the afternoon in front of the FEC's E Street headquarters in Northwest Washington after learning on Thursday night's program that Colbert was planning to be there. The purpose of his visit--detailed below--was to file a motion for an advisory opinion on the creation of his political action committee, the Colbert Super PAC.
