Do Republicans Believe in Global Warming? Not if They're in the Tea Party

Nearly half of Republicans believe the Earth is warming, says a Pew poll released Friday. Most of those believers don't belong to the tea party.

The GOP has experienced its share of intra-party struggles recently, and the split over global warming illustrates just how far the party's factions can diverge. Among tea partiers, 70 percent say there is no solid evidence the Earth is warming. But only 30 percent of those outside the tea party agree with that statement.

Among Democrats, 84 percent believe that the Earth is warming, and 67 percent of the general public agrees.
