Elizabeth Edwards, who died today after a very public six-year battle with breast cancer, filled many roles during her time in the public's eye -- politician's wife, best-selling author, and advocate.

Edwards was a key player in two presidential campaigns for her husband, former Sen. John Edwards, and she spent numerous hours on Capitol Hill testifying on health care and cancer research.
