Unknown armed actors killed 12 people in a Syrian seafront town, according to the Syrian government, the Associated Press reported Sunday morning.
Unrest that swept through the Mideast, beginning early this year in Algeria and Tunisia and still convulsing the region has reached Syria, one of the region's strategically most important nations.
In recent days, the media reported dozens of protesters were killed in Syria, some at the hands of government security forces.
The most recent violence, in Latakia, erupted when the armed actors attacked the town and began shooting from rooftops, the AP reported. Ten people, including residents and Syrian government security forces were killed. Two others were part of the unknown armed party that carried the attacks out.
