WHCA to Honor National Journal's Condon

National Journal's George Condon will receive the newly created President's Award at this year's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner.

In announcing the award Tuesday, WHCA President Steven Thomma called Condon "a unique friend of the organization."

Thomma, the senior White House correspondent for McClatchy, noted that Condon has served on the WHCA board and as its president, as "the impartial arbiter of our elections" and as "a helping hand and voice of good judgment to officers of the association."

Condon is also the WHCA's "unofficial historian," working over the last two years to research the history of the organization as it celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

Prior to joining National Journal in 2009, Condon covered the White House and national politics for Copley News Services and the San Diego Union-Tribune. He led the team that won a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2006.
