HOUSE LEADERSHIP - DeLay Continues Media Offensive

© National Journal Group, Inc.

Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, continued his media offensive today with appearances on three conservative radio shows, including Rush Limbaugh, to discuss his second grand jury indictment Monday on one count of money-laundering and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering in an investigation led by Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle. "Ronnie Earle has stooped to a new low with his brand of prosecutorial abuse," DeLay said in a statement Monday. "He is trying to pull the legal equivalent of a 'do-over' since he knows very well that the charges he brought against me last week are totally manufactured and illegitimate. This is an abomination of justice." DeLay will return to Washington Wednesday, his spokesman said, and further media appearances are expected later in the week but are not yet scheduled. The second indictment comes on the heels of last Wednesday's indictment on one count of conspiracy to violate Texas campaign finance laws during the 2002 election cycle, which resulted in DeLay relinquishing his majority leader post.
