2013 White House / The White House

Paulette Aniskoff, Director, Public Engagement

(Richard A. Bloom)

Aniskoff's job is to help connect Obama with the people, but it was her private life that made news recently. She was one of that rarefied group of individuals to have a wedding announcement in The New York Times. Aniskoff married Matthew Tinning, an Australian who is executive director of the Marine Fish Conservation Network, in a ceremony this spring in Loudon County, Va. The weekend's festivities included a game of cricket. The White House has made the Office of Public Engagement central to its outreach efforts, with a key Obama lieutenant, Valerie Jarrett, overseeing the push. The office arranges public events for members of the administration and also takes the public's feedback, with social media a primary focus. Aniskoff, 36, has made the rounds within the administration. She came to the White House from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, where she helped coordinate disaster-preparedness efforts at the local level and also chaired FEMA's Children's Working Group. Before that came a stint in the Office of Presidential Personnel. Like many Obama staffers, Aniskoff worked for the 2008 presidential campaign, serving as get-out-the-vote director in Iowa during the primaries and then as Pennsylvania field director for the general election. She also had her own political consulting firm in New York. Aniskoff grew up in Connecticut but obtained her undergraduate degree out West, at the University of Colorado.
