At a campaign stop in Iowa yesterday, Texas governor and newly-minted GOP presidential frontrunner Rick Perry said Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's policy of quantitative easing was "almost treasonous" and said the Fed chairman would receive an "ugly" greeting if he showed up in Texas, according to USA Today. Those comments didn't sit well with Republican strategist (and Texan) Karl Rove, who called Perry's comments "unfortunate" and "unpresidential" during an appearance this morning on Fox News. TPM's Evan McMorris-Santos notes that in addition to having some knowledge about how a Texas governor should seek the presidency, Rove is also chairman of the American Crossroads PAC, which is aiming to raise and spend $120 million on behalf of GOP candidates during the 2012 election cycle, according to the Christian Science Monitor.
So far, Perry's standing his ground. According to ABC News, Perry told reporters after an event today in Dubuque, Iowa, "I'm just passionate about the issue and we stand by what we said."
