New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg lost his mother on Sunday. Charlotte Bloomberg died at her home in Medford, Mass., at age 102. Bloomberg said in a statement that he and his sister, Marjorie, would remember their mother for her "unimpeachable integrity, fierce independence, and constant love." A New York Times retrospective on Bloomberg's relationship with his mothernoted that the mayor frequently mentioned her in speeches. Earlier this month, while announcing a plan to offer wireless Internet service in city parks, Bloomberg used one of his favorite lines: "My mother remembers when the telephone came in." Last week, when asked about an education issue, he spoke about driving by his elementary school recently while visiting his mother. Fittingly, Bloomberg is said to have called his mother every day.
