Former Rep. Dick Zimmer, R-N.J., picked up the backing of three members of the state’s Republican congressional delegation in his bid for a Senate seat, PolitickerNJ reported.
Republican Reps. Frank LoBiondo, Jim Saxton and Mike Ferguson Tuesday announced their support for Zimmer, who is seeking the seat held by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J.
“Having served with Dick Zimmer in Congress for two years, I know he will bring his pork-busting, fiscally conservative record into the U.S. Senate and serve the people of New Jersey with honor, which is why I am endorsing his run for U.S. Senate,” said LoBiondo.
Zimmer will face state Sen. Joe Pennacchio and college professor Murray Sabrin in the primary.
Lautenberg faces primary challenges from Morristown Mayor Donald Crestiello and Rep. Robert Andrews.
