Senate Majority Leader Reid's office Thursday night announced that newly appointed Sen. Carte Goodwin, D-W.Va., has received committee assignments on the Armed Services, Budget, Rules and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committees.
The Democratic Caucus approved the assignments Thursday. Sen. John (Jay) Rockefeller, D-W.Va., had pushed for Goodwin to get the Appropriations seat of the late Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., whom Goodwin replaced. That move would also have kept the post in West Virginia hands. But it went to Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, Brown's office announced Thursday. Brown gave up his HELP seat to join Appropriations.
