Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain said today he will temporarily suspend his campaign and return to Washington to work on the economic crisis. He urged Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama to join him in putting aside politics for the moment and join him in Washington. He also called for Friday's debate, which is supposed to focus on foreign policy, to be rescheduled. "Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington," McCain said in a statement outlining his extraordinary step. "It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem," McCain said. "We must meet as Americans, not as Democrats or Republicans, and we must meet until this crisis is resolved."
