The FCC's review of the proposed $30 billion merger of Comcast and NBC Universal will include a "public forum" about the transaction in Chicago on July 13. The session will be held at Northwestern University Law School and will provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions. The House Judiciary Committee has scheduled a field hearing on the deal for Monday in Los Angeles. Democratic FCC members Mignon Clyburn and Michael Copps, along with Judiciary member Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., had urged FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski to hold hearings on the merger outside Washington to allow for a wider range of feedback on its impact. The commission and the Justice Department's Antitrust Division are reviewing the deal for its public-interest and antitrust implications.
