REBOOT. Microsoft has appointed Bill Kamela as its policy leader for education, workforce and immigration policy in its Washington office. Kamela most recently served as staff director for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Employment and Workplace Safety Subcommittee under its chairwoman, Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash. During the Clinton administration, Kamela was an associate director of congressional affairs for the Labor Department and was chief of staff for the Employment and Training Administration. He also worked for the late Rep. Augustus Hawkins, D-Calif., when Hawkins was chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, and as director of government affairs for the National Urban Coalition. Kamela has been in Washington since he came to the city for a semester while attending the State University of New York at Brockport, where he earned his bachelor's degree. During this time he ended up working as a research assistant for the Office of Education and the Urban Coalition and finished up his school. He has studied law at the George Mason University School of Law.
CREDIT CHECK. The Credit Union National Association has hired Scott Howard to be its manager of grassroots advocacy. Howard recently worked for the presidential campaign of former Republican Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as a field director and part of the rapid deployment team for the primaries. Howard started The Mitt Report, a Web site about the Romney campaign that, according to the site, was not affiliated with the campaign. He has been an aide for the Georgia General Assembly and interned for Rep. Wally Herger, R-Calif., and the House Ways and Means Committee. Howard is pursuing a master's degree at George Washington University. He also co-founded Autosouth Brokers, a wholesale car company, and Getaway Estates, a vacation real estate development company.
